In my opinion, I would like to live in this society because it has no discrimination, no violence, and no disease.The first reason I would like to live in this community because there is no discrimination. According to dictionary.com, discrimination means, “Treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit.” Would you like to be treated badly or in a different way just because your skin tone is different, or because you come from another country? Well, in the Community, there is no discrimination. No one is treated differently because of their skin tone or where they’re from.

I would like to live in a Community where occupations are based on on how good and smart you are, not just because you are popular or come from the royal family. The second reason I would like to live in The Community is that is no violence. The Community is a well-disciplined place where no violence is tolerated. If a person breaks a rulerelating to violence, he or she will be chastised. Also, since everyone gets things, like bikes and jackets, at the same time, so there would be no violence because of jealousy. On page 45, the author writes, “Jonas could see them applauding dutifully, as the Nines, one by one, wheeled their new bicycles, each with its gleaming name tag attached to the back, from the stage.” This quote shows that each Nine get their own bike with their own name tag on it, at the same time, so there is no violence over jealousy. Therefore, there would be no violence in The Community.

The third reason I would want to live in The Community is that there is no disease or pain. The world in which we live in now has diseases that can kill you and have pain that can hurt you. But, in The Community, there is no disease or pain. There is no fear of getting sick and not feeling well, and there is no fear of getting sick and then dying. There is no fear of doing something dangerous and then feel the pain of getting hurt from it. If there ever is something that can hurt you, there are also relievers. On page 109, the author writes, “ “May I have relief-of-pain please?” he begged. It was always provided in his everyday life for the bruises and wounds, for a mashed finger, a stomach ache, a skinned knee, from a fall from a bike. There was always a daub of anesthetic ointment, or a pill; or in severe instances, an injection that brought complete and instantaneous deliverance.”

This quote explains that even there could be injuries, there are treatments that can help relief them, and there is an option of an instantaneous numbness from pain. Also, on the back cover summary, the author writes, “There is no war or fear or pain.” This quote explains that there no violence, no fear of doing something wrong, and most important of all, there is no pain in The Community. Having no disease or pain in The Community is a good brilliant reason to live in it. All in all, I think that we should keep Sameness because there is no discrimination, there is no violence, and there is no disease. There is no choosing a person based on their skin tone, there is no violence that can cause unwanted deaths, and there is no disease that can also cause death, agony, and pain.
